Methodology

This calculator uses the following methodology and data sources to determine daily water intake requirements:

Weight: Calculated as one ounce of water for every half pound of body mass, or 33ml per kilogram (UMSystem).
Exercise: Adds 12 ounces (or 250ml) of water for every 30 minutes of exercise (UMSystem).
Temperature: Adjusts total water needs by 10% for every 5°C deviation from 15°C. Based on temperature multipliers derived from a 2020 study in Environmental Sciences Proceedings (MDPI).
Coffee and Alcohol: Adds 240ml (8oz) for every coffee consumed and 500ml (17oz) for every alcoholic drink. (NHS).
